We have watched it grow and eventually bear fruit, which ripens with the sun to become dark purple and delicious. Each year my friend leaves a parcel of figs as a thank you for helping to plant the tree. Unwrapping the brown paper is always a delight, the fragrance is fresh and leafy green with warmth, sweetness and depth. This is summer for me!
